Under certain circumstances, a tooth can have trouble erupting and remains trapped under the gum or jaw bone. It is also possible that the tooth cannot erupt in the correct position on the dental arch. Canines are the most commonly affected teeth. This treatment is performed in collaboration with the orthodontist.
The traction unit
During orthodontic treatment we can proceed with surgically exposing the impacted tooth and place a traction device (small chain) that will allow to move the tooth in a gradual way. The tooth will reach its normal position on the dental arch while avoiding compromising or damaging other teeth.
She teaches dental students as an oral surgery clinician at the University of Montreal as well as general practice residents in the Notre-Dame Hospital – CHUM (catered mostly for medically compromised patients as well as trauma patients). She now works in private practice and is affiliated with the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital in St-Jérôme as well as Notre-Dame hospital – CHUM.
In her spare time, Dr. Rizkallah enjoys biking outdoors, spinning, hiking and trekking, improvising new cooking recipes without forgetting the most important part of savouring them.
